DARK TROOPER EDUCATION • MODULE 01

PRACTICAL CHECKPOINT

Rebuild a real session using the complete Module 01 workflow and review what changed.

PUT THE WORKFLOW INTO A REAL PROJECT

This checkpoint is the important part of Module 01. The information only becomes useful when you apply it to a real session and notice where your previous habits create friction.
MODULE 01 CHECKPOINTSuggested video: Mike opens a deliberately messy project and rebuilds it using the complete Module 01 workflow.

THE ASSIGNMENT

1. Duplicate one current or older project so the original remains untouched.

2. Create a clear project folder and save a properly named new version.

3. Rename tracks according to function and remove anything that is genuinely unused.

4. Rebuild routing into a simple structure you can trace without guessing.

5. Identify the biggest problem in intent, structure, balance, control and character.

6. Trace the kick and bass signal paths and identify every stage where level changes.

7. Choose two references and write three specific observations.

8. Export a new rough mix and compare it with the original version.

WHAT TO WRITE DOWN

Keep a short production log. You do not need an essay. Write the project date, the biggest problem you heard, the three most important decisions you made and one thing you would change about your workflow next time.

SELF-REVIEW QUESTIONS

Can I reopen this project and understand it quickly?

Can I trace the important signal paths?

Did I solve arrangement problems before trying to mix around them?

Did I compare processing at similar perceived loudness?

Did the references create specific decisions rather than vague dissatisfaction?

Can I explain why the important processors and buses are there?

Module complete when:
You can explain the workflow in your own words and apply it to a session without following the lesson step-by-step. That is the point where the process has started to become your own.

NEXT

The next module can build on this foundation with Drum & Bass-specific rhythm and low-end construction, or whatever topic Mike’s finished curriculum actually uses next.
